Elite Au Pair

Are you looking for a purely child orientated solution with a more qualified Au Pair?

What is an Elite Au Pair?
An Elite Au Pair is a single person, without dependants aged 18-27 who wants to learn a foreign language and learn about the culture by living as part of the family. An Elite Au Pair can be male or female.

An Elite Au Pair will have have the BAFA childcare certificate (see below), a proven experience with children and in most cases a first aid certificate. Their motivation is to learn English and work with children. They will have experience in holiday camps and / or extensive babysitting.

What is an Elite Au Pair's role?
An Elite Au Pair has a role that could be considered to be that of an older sister, or a visiting niece. Elite Au Pairs are only expected to spend time with the children - they must not be asked to do housework.

An Elite Au Pair should be included in family activities including most mealtimes and some outings. They will expect to be treated as a family member and not an employee. This is essential if the placement is to succeed.

What are the work conditions?
Pocket Money :        £85 a week - £95 in London.
Days off/Holiday :      Every Saturday & Sunday (no babysitting). One week's paid holiday every 6 months.
Childcare Hours :      25 hours + 2 evenings babysitting Monday to Friday.
Housework :             None - An Elite Au Pair is responsible for her own room & laundry and helping at
mealtimes when she is eating with the family.
Optional Benefits :    An end of placement bonus can encourage an Au Pair to complete their placement.
Use of a car - pay as you go mobile phone - help with cost of language lessons etc.
These benefits are all optional and not expected by the Au Pairs.

What can the family ask an Elite Au Pair to do?

An Elite Au Pair's duties are always linked to childcare and do no include any housework. This can include taking the children to / from school; helping them get ready in the morning; amusing and supervising them until the parents come home; babysitting in the evening; tidying the toys away; preparing their meals and clearing up after the mealtimes.

An Elite Au Pair should clean their own room, and if they have sole use, their bathroom. They are responsible for clearing up after themselves and their own laundry. They should also help out at mealtimes if they are eating.

What can't the family ask an Elite Au Pair to do?

- The Elite Au Pair should not be asked to do any general housework such as cleaning the kitchen or the bathroom, general tidying (apart from children's toys), washing/ironing, caring for pets or cooking..

- Children under 3 years of age should not be left in the sole charge of an Elite Au Pair during the day –
if there is any confusion on this, please contact our office for clarification.

Please remember - an Elite Au Pair does not replace a nanny or a parent's help - the latter being paid at least £230 a week - significantly more than an Elite Au Pair so the expectations should not be the same.

The BAFA certificate
The BAFA is a childcare qualification involving 3 training periods. The first is theory where they study the behaviour of children and different methods of looking after all ages.

This is then put into practice in the second period where they work in a children's holiday camp as an assistant monitor, and in the third period they become a monitor where they have their own group of children that they look after. It's a very respected diploma in France and demonstrates good experience with children.
