Hosting a foreign student
Do you have a spare room you're not using? Are you interested in a bit of extra income? Why not rent your spare room out to one of our many young foreigners looking for a homestay experience in a British family?
What are the advantages of hosting a Pebbles student?
- Increase your monthly income by £300-400 by doing very little !
- The rent is tax free up to £350 per month under the Govenrment's 'Rent a Room Scheme'
- Offer a culture experience to your whole family and maybe even pick up some French.
- Make new friendships and visit the students later on in France!
- Short term lets allowing you to use your room at other times e.g. when you are expecting guests.
- We know that accepting someone into your home isn't easy which is why we vet all students first.
- All our students are from a good background and have been judged to be honest and reliable.
Who is eligible to become a host family?
- Your home must be situated in a popular area i.e. near to a big town, language school etc.
- You must be able to provided a spare room for sole use of the lodger and if possible their own bathroom
- You must be able to offer a real cultural experience to the student - the student will want to eat with the family in the evening to practice their English and learn more about the culture.
- Your family must speak English at home.
How much does it cost?
- You may notice an increase in your utilites bill due to the extra tenant.
- If you are offering board as well, your supermarket bill will increase naturally.
- Pebbles request a one-off registration fee of £39 - redundable if we don't find you a lodger.
- A quick call to your home insurer will confirm if the cost of your contents' insurance policy changes.
How does it work?
- Please complete this short form to start the process.
- We will check your details and contact you by telephone.
- You then need to forward us photos of your home and the room you are renting out.
- We will invoice you for the registration fee.
- You will then receive information on potential lodgers.
