Understanding the Au Pair solution
Pebbles is one of the top accredited Au Pair agencies in London specialising in the placement of French, Spanish and Italian Au Pairs.
What is a Pebbles Au Pair?
A Pebbles Au Pair is a young foreigner with babysitting experience who comes to the UK to learn English and discover the culture.
An Au Pair is not a trained Child Care Worker. They are young adults with some experience with children through babysitting or working in summer camps, etc. They do not usually have any formal qualifications.
What’s the deal?
The Au Pair will look after your children aged 3 and up for 6 hours per day. This can include some babysitting in the evenings and help out with a little light housework. Help with under 3s is possible in some situations : see baby and toddler care
In return, the Au Pair should receive full board and lodging in the family home as well as weekly pocket money. The Au Pairs should be able to attend local English lessons on a part-time basis.
It is a cultural exchange and not an employment contract. The Au Pair will be expecting to be integrated into your life and to be treated as a member of the family.
The level of integration will depend on your lifestyle and the Au Pair’s expectations and personality. These are important criteria that we take into consideration when finding/sourcing your Au Pair.
What are the different types of Au Pair?
The definition of Au Pair/Mother’s helps varies according to the agency you work with. With Pebbles, we align our conditions with the B.A.P.A.A recommendations and Au Pairs can work up to 30 hours a week maximum. See hours and pocket money guidelines for Au Pairs.
Hosting an Au Pair is both an economical and flexible childcare solution but there are some things to take into consideration.
